Richard Stone oversees Science Magazine's Asia news coverage. He opened Science's Beijing bureau in October 2007 after a 2-year stint in Bangkok. After receiving a biology degree from Cornell University in 1988, Stone studied biophysics at the University of Pennsylvania before discovering his calling as a science writer. He earned a science communication degree at University of California, Santa Cruz, then interned at The Washington Post and Science before joining Science as a staff writer in 1991.Stone was a Fulbright scholar in Russia in 1995-96 and in Kazakhstan in 2004-05. He served as news editor in Science's European office in Cambridge, U.K., from 2000 to 2004, during which time he was also Visiting Writer in Science at the University of Cambridge. He has won awards for articles that have appeared in Science, Discover, Smithsonian, and National Geographic, and he is the author of "Mammoth: The Resurrection of an Ice Age Giant."
