报告题目:Growth of Super-strong and Ultra-flat Graphene Films

  报告摘要

  Graphene has attracted much more attention, because of its special electronic, thermal, mechanical, optoelectronic properties. The special mechanical properties, including large Young's modulus and high breaking strength, will offer the structural help for its future applications. By introducing a few point defects into perfect graphene, its Young’s modulus will be enhanced, but also with the reducing breaking strength. Here, we find by introducing the special line defect by grain boundaries, nanocrystalline graphene films can enhance their Young’s modulus, and can also slow down the reduction of breaking strength. This will be a new approach for super strong graphene.

  Moreover, graphene wrinkles, induced by the thermal expansion difference between graphene and growth substrate, exist in nearly all the chemical vapor deposited samples, and it can also affect its electronic uniformity, similar to the grain boundary. The wrinkles were considered to be unavoidable in all thermal growth. Here, we develop a new approach for growing intrinsic wrinkle-free graphene films by strain engineering. The films will release its inner compressive strain after transferring onto isolating substrate, and become instinct ultra-flat high quality graphene without doping.

  报告人简介

  GAO Libo graduated from the Department of Materials Engineering of Dalian University of Technology in 2006 with Bachelor degree, and graduated from Prof Hui-Ming Cheng and REN Wencai’s Group in Institute of Metal Research, Chinese Academy of Sciences, with PhD degree in Materials Science in 2011. After that, he joined in Prof Kian Ping Loh’s lab in Graphene Research Centre, National University of Singapore, as a postdoctoral research fellow. In 2014, he got a professor job in Nanjing University, under the 6th project of thousand youth talents, and joined it with full time from March 2015.

  Dr. GAO focuses his research area in graphene from 2007, and mainly for the chemical vapor deposition (CVD) growth from 2008. In his postdoctoral period, he continued his research in CVD growth, characterizations and related physical properties. He published many papers in Nature, Nature Communications, JACS, ACS Nano as first author, and also participated many papers in Nature Materials, Nature Communications, JACS, AM, etc.. He has published 26 papers until now, which were cited by more than 5000 times. He has ever refereed many papers in Nature Materials, Nature Nanotechnology, ACS Nano, Carbon, Chemistry of Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, etc..
